Michael Grogan has over 20 years of professional experience coupled with academic appointments during the last decade. Michael is an Associate Professor Architecture at Kansas State University. Previously he taught at Northeastern University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He received his MArch from Yale University and his B.Arch from the University of Arkansas. At Yale he was named the John Storrs Scholar for 2006, earned two Teaching Fellowships for undergraduate and graduate design studios, and was named the Yale Presidential Public Service Fellow at the Yale Urban Design Workshop in 2005. Michael's practice began in the 1990s with a number of independent commissions - mostly for single family homes - throughout the Southeast, including the completed Rochester residence which was exhibited at the 1997 AIA National Convention. More recently he has had built residential commissions in MA and NY while also collaborating with the Kripper Architecture Studio on a number of competitions and commissioned commercial and residential projects - mostly adaptive reuse - throughout the Northeast. Additionally Michael has been a designer for architecture firms in Phoenix, Memphis, St. Louis, and Boston. Michael was elected as the AIA Kansas President for 2021 after serving as the AIA Flint Hills President in 2019. He was a founder and Vice President (2022-24) of the preservation advoacy organization Plains Modern. Recent awards include an AIA New York State design award and a University of Arkansas Alumni Honor Award for the Edershiem Residence in New York. He was also awarded the Commerce Bank and W.T. Kemper Foundation Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching.
