“Spa City Modernism: Postwar Hotels in Hot Springs, Arkansas.”

In 2021 Docomomo US held a call for submissions to propose topics for a new “Travel and Leisure” series. This followed my research and preparation of a paper and presentation for the 2020 SESAH conference on the topic of modernist hotels in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas. As this was once a notable travel destination and, in recent years has again become popular for regional travel—albeit not to much benefit for these hotels, some of which remain threatened—this appeared to be a relevant topic for the article series.
